I have decided that 2012 will be the year that I really work hard to publish a blog that I have wanted to for years. A blog that will cover any and everything Kayak fishing, fly fishing and fishing photography. Feel free to contact me with any ideas, questions, ideas or anything on your mind.

My first trip of 2012 was to my home lake; Alan Henry. This year Lubbock's pipeline that has been 8 years in the making will finally be completed. This has caused many area fishermen to be concerned about the future impact on the lake levels that the pipeline will cause. That along with the spread of smaller spotted bass and area lake pressure has me dreaming about heading southeast for a new home body of water.

Saturday's trip started later than usual around 10:00am, I wanted to fish higher water temps. I was excited to get on the water because I have spent a lot of the off season this year working on my kayak (Post about my rig is on its way). The day was just about perfect for anyone who lives in west Texas, no wind and highs in the upper 80's in March. The lake was packed with a few tournaments and power boats buzzing all around me so I tried to work to my kayak's strength and hold very close to cover. Well 3 hours later I had zero bites and questioning if others were sharing my frustrations. I met up with a friend who was fishing a big bass tournament and he said that it wasn't just me and that there wasn't much action anywhere on the lake (The tournament he was in ended up with a winner finishing with a 4lb big bass and a bag of 8 lbs which is terrible for the lake). My first bite and only fish was on a crank bait fished pretty slow. I considered calling for a Sharelunker official but decided to just release her.

A Break from the Heat

After being sidelined by this heat and husband duties, Jack Baines convinced me to brave the heat and make one of our LAH trips. With our area only recieving 1.15 '' of rain and breaking the record for most triple degit days this year; fishing seemed to be on the back burning for many people including me. The morning started off with the best fishing I have had in years. We happend to kayak right into a big school of hungry bass.
Let me first start off by saying that I had a little bit of a scare with a injury that MANY of you guys out there have had or seen. With all the excitement of being right in the middle of a school of fish, I was quikly unhooking a good size bass from a top water popper when I was hook through my finger by one of the treble hooks while the lures was still in the fish's mouth. Luckily jack was there to come assist me or I am sure I would have had to wait til the fish died to make any move to release the hook from my finger. Jack helped me cut the hook and although it hurt badly, we kept fishing without much thought.
Later that night , jack calls me on the way home and says I should look into getting a Tetanus shot if I hadn't had one in 10 years. Being 27, I couldnt remember when I last got one so it must have been in elementary. While on the phone with him I started to study my hand and noticed that my hand actually had a redish rash and my hand hurt more than it normally does after a day at the lake. It was a Sunday so my only option was going to the ER to get the shot and have them check it out. Both the nurses and docotors that saw me were actually concerned it seem with the rash instead of the tetanus worry. Although they thought the pain in my joint was probably related to the tetanus, their focus was the whole hand. After a few hours they decided that I did not need a IV for the antibotics and that they could just give me a prescription for a 2 week supply and for me to see me Dr. after a few days. I want to thank Jack for pushing me to go in because they said that the earlier the better and that I might have been worse off int he morning if I would have waited of just blown it off.
Which is why I wanted to write this at the start; I know we are all tough but even something that seems small can turn into a bad thing. Check to see when you had a T-shot and make sure to go in and get checked if something is ever not right. With that said, be safe out there guys.
